Ramadan and Eid shopping: when to buy, and what to watch
Ramadan and Eid concentrate more retail spending than any other period in Pakistan, and the price curve through it is steep and predictable. Knowing which way each category moves is worth more than any discount code.
The two different price curves
Food staples climb early — prices on dates, flour, oil and pulses often rise before Ramadan even begins, because sellers stock in anticipation. Clothing and gifts run the opposite way: they hold firm through the first three weeks and then move hard in the final ten days as buyers run out of time. Buying clothes early and staples earlier still is the whole strategy.
Chand Raat is the worst time to buy and the best time to sell
The night before Eid produces the highest prices and the least negotiating room of the entire year. If you are buying, almost anything purchased then could have been bought cheaper a week before. If you are selling, it is the single best window you will get — provided your listing is already up and visible before the rush rather than posted into it.
Scams that appear every year
The last ten days bring a reliable wave of advance-payment fraud: accounts with no history offering sought-after items well below market, requiring a deposit "to reserve" before Eid. The urgency is manufactured precisely because a buyer who is short of time is easier to rush. Never pay in advance, buy from accounts with a rating history, and treat a price that is too good as information rather than luck.
Selling into the season
If you are selling, list well before the final week so your item has time to be found, and time an auction to end in the last few days rather than after Eid. Clear photographs matter more than usual when buyers are comparing quickly, and answering messages fast is worth real money in a week when everyone is deciding in minutes.
Common questions
When is the cheapest time to buy Eid clothes?
Early in Ramadan. Prices hold for the first three weeks and rise hard in the final ten days as buyers run out of time.
Why do prices rise before Ramadan starts?
Sellers stock staples in anticipation of demand, so food prices often move up before the month begins. Buy those earliest of all.
What is the most common Eid scam?
Advance payment. New accounts offer sought-after items below market and ask for a deposit to reserve before Eid. The time pressure is deliberate — never pay before you receive.
When should I list something to sell for Eid?
Before the final week, so it has time to be found. Time an auction to end in the last few days rather than after Eid.
