Pakistan’s new-car market has tilted sharply towards hybrids and EVs, with a long list of models expected. If you are buying or selling a used car, launches matter to you even if you never buy new — they move the price of what you already own.

What a new launch does to used prices
When a new model or a facelift arrives, the outgoing version reprices almost immediately, and the effect runs down the whole segment. If you are planning to sell a car that is about to be superseded, selling before the launch rather than after is usually worth more than any amount of detailing. If you are buying, waiting until just after a launch is the cheapest moment for the previous model.
Hybrids and EVs change what to check
A used EV or hybrid is priced mainly on battery health, which does not show in a test drive. Ask for a state-of-health reading rather than judging from the range display, and find out whether the pack is still under warranty and whether that warranty transfers. Charging infrastructure is still thin outside the major cities, so a home charger and your daily distance matter more than the headline range.
Imported versus locally assembled
The same nameplate can arrive as a local assembly or a full import, and the two are not the same purchase — parts availability, warranty and resale all differ. Establish which one a car is before comparing prices, because a straight comparison between them is misleading.
Do not buy on an expected price
Expected prices circulate long before launch and are frequently wrong, because duty and exchange rates move. Treat any pre-launch figure as a rough band. If you are timing a sale around a launch, watch for the actual announcement rather than acting on a rumoured price.
